SEED CARE

Keeping the seed bed moist is crucial for successful seed germination.

Most seed failures are due to poor watering practices. Don’t lose your investment by failing to properly care for the product.

Watering:  If watered properly, germination occurs in 7 to 14 days. We recommend oscillating sprinklers applying approximately ½” of water per day for one week. Seeded areas should be kept very wet once germination occurs.   Traffic should be kept to a minimum in these areas.

Mowing:  Newly seeded lawns should be cut as soon as possible with sharp mower blades set between 2-1/2” to 3”. Any small rocks exposed due to heavy watering should be removed before mowing. Follow the guide below for recommended mowing heights.

*Measure grass from ground level.

*To keep the lawn healthy in the summer, always water lawn after mowing.

*Never cut more than 1/3 height of existing blades of grass.

*Always keep mower blades sharpened.

Fertilizing and weed control:  After lawn has been mowed twice, starter fertilizer with a high nitrogen content and quick release should be applied. Remember to water immediately after fertilizing. Should dormant weed seeds germinate, apply a weed and feed after the lawn has been mowed 3 times. Weed and feed should be applied in the morning before the dew has evaporated and should not be watered for 24 hours. After the lawn has become established, a regular lawn care program can be initiated.
